How to make an e-invoice and print the IRN and QR

Businesses above the e-invoice limit must register each B2B invoice on the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP). This maker makes the file; you upload it with your own login and bring the reply back.

Step by step

  1. Type your business details once. GSTIN, address, City / town and PIN code.
  2. Add the buyer and the items. Tax invoice, buyer's GSTIN, city and PIN, and a 6- or 8-digit HSN/SAC on every item.
  3. Open E-invoice and e-way bill. Type of supply (B2B for a normal sale) and your turnover band.
  4. Press Download e-invoice file. A list tells you what to fix, or a .json file is saved in Downloads. Do not open it.
  5. Upload on the IRP. Sign in at einvoice1.gst.gov.in (OTP), e-Invoice › Bulk Upload, choose the file, Upload.
  6. Load the reply, save and print. Press Load the portal's reply file: the invoice prints IRN, Ack No., Ack date and the signed QR code.

Worked example

A manufacturer with ₹7 crore turnover bills ₹2,36,000 to a buyer. File uploaded at 11:05, reply loaded at 11:07: IRN of 64 characters, Ack No. 1123…, QR printed at the top right. The buyer can scan the QR to check it.

Rules and dates

E-invoice applies when aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any year since 2017-18 (from 1 August 2023). With turnover of ₹10 crore or more, an invoice older than 30 days cannot be registered (from 1 April 2025). An IRN can be cancelled only within 24 hours.
